Winkworth Arboretum

An arboretum in a beautiful part of Surrey. It has more of the character of a woodland garden than a tree collection. The soil is dry and sandy. Cedars, maples, rhododendrons, azaleas and bluebells grow well. There are two lakes at Winkworth Arboretum from which the water flows to Bramley House. Gertrude Jekyll lived there as a girl and used to walk through these woods before they were planted with exotics (c1938) by Dr Wilfrid Fox.
