English architect and occasional designer of public parks. Pennethorne was born and educated in Worcester. He moved to London in 1820 and studied under Pugin and then Nash. From 1824-26 he was in Italy. Most of his career was as a government architect and this led to his work on Victoria Park in London. He also worked on Battersea Park and Kennington Park, showing little understanding of park design.
