Vernag, or Verinag, was the favourite garden of Janagir and Nur Jahan. There is an octagonal pool with arcaded recesses. 'Vir' means willow and Vir-nag means 'Willow fountain'. Jahangir wrote in his memoirs that 'Kashmir is a garden of eternal spring' and that 'By my order they have made a building and a garden at that source'.
