Thorp Perrow Arboretum

A privately owned arboretum, started in 1931, amidst a framework of older trees. The Arboretum includes an area called Spring Wood which dates back to Medieval times and an area called Milbank Pinetum (which is a collection of pines which were brought over to England as seed from North America in the 1840s and 50s).

85 acres of woodland to explore with areas dating back to Medieval times.

History

The Arboretum was designed and planted by one man; Sir Leornard Ropner. Planting began in 1930s is continued today by his son Sir John Ropner. The Arboretum also includes a Pinetum which was planted in 1840s & 50s.

Plants of note

Five National Collections : Tilia, Fraxinus, Jugalns, Laburnum and Cotinus.
Many rare trees and shrubs from around the world.
