Chahar Chenar Chinar Island

Little remains but there was a garden on the island in the 15th century and four plane trees were planted by Shah Jahan to commemorate his visit. The trees are Platanus orientalis, the Old World sycamore, or Oriental planeT, called Chenar or Chinar. The 'four' symbolism may be related to the charbagh idea. See Paradise garden style.
