The botanic garden was established on the former World Fair site in Flushing. Since 2001, there has been a massive focus on sustainability. The new visitor centre was opened in 2007, which received platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. The most recent project is to develop the parking lot into a parking garden. The Victorian Wedding Garden is an interesting and popular feature.

Head Gardener's Comment

The Queens Botanical Garden grew from “Gardens on Parade,” a spectacular five-acre exhibition at the 1939 New York World’s Fair. A living museum serving one of the most ethnically diverse counties in the United States, QBG celebrates the rich cultural connections between people and plants. The LEED® Visitor and Administration Center showcases cutting-edge green building practices that promote the health of the environment, community and future generations. A variety of educational and entertainment programs is offered year round. Located at 43-50 Main Street in Flushing, Queens Botanical Garden is easily accessible by car, train, or bus. Admission is free. For travel directions and more information, visit www.queensbotanical.org or call 718.886.3800.
