Liz Christy Garden

New York City's First Community Garden was founded in 1973. It is located on the northeast corner of Bowery and Houston Streets in Manhattan. Liz Christy and a group of friends were planting vacant lots with 'seed bombs' and gained permission for planting on this land. It became a forerunner of the urban community garden movement, much admired by landscape architects and urban designers.
