Sizergh is an old castle built in the Middle Ages and set in a 1,600 acre estate. There are two lakes, a woodland garden, kitchen garden, orchard, herbaceous borders, terrace garden, Dutch garden, wild flower banks and a well-known very large limestone rock garden (the largest in The National Trust) made by T R Hayes & Son in 1926.
Sizergh is likely to have had a medieval castle garden in the medieval period and then to have had a Kip and Knyff style late renaissance garden garden. Today the character of the layout is mixed and Victorian.
