English poet and landscape theorist. William Shenstone wrote an essay 'Unconnected thoughts on gardening' (1764) and made a celebrated Ferme Ornee at The Leasowes. Girardin erected a memorial to William Shenstone at Ermenonville in France. Shenstone corresponded with Lady Luxborough.
