English connoisseur, furniture designer and writer. Thomas Hope's country house and garden at Deepdene influenced the post-eighteenth century revival of the Italian style of garden design. Hope bought Deepdene in 1807. Thomas Hope extended the house between 1818 and 1825 and William Atkinson helped with the design of the garden.
