Niccolo Tribolo was an Italian Mannerist artist whose work as a sculptor gave him an involvement with garden design, including the design of the Villa Medici at Castello. He also worked as an architect and engineer. Vasari records that "Il Triboloï¾… being then employed on some fountains at Castello, set Piero to work upon the figure of a boy, and he finished this so well that Il Tribolo prophesied he would show himself of rare skill'.
