The father and son (also John Tradescant and lived 1608-62) were horticulturalists from Suffolk, England, and were responsible for many plant introductions. The father was gardener to Robert Cecil, 1st Earl of Salisbury and had many famous patrons. He became keeper of the Chelsea Physic Garden. The son made three visits to North America. Their work is commemorated at the Museum of Garden History in London, where they are buried.
