Oakhurst Gardens

The cultural center was founded by the Ball family (as was Ball State University). Oakhurst was the Ball family home on the White River. The gardens were developed by Elizabeth Ball in the 1930s and restored when taken over by the Minnetrista Cultural Center (from Sioux, mna, or mini, means water, and from English, a tryst is a meeting place, so Minnetrista is 'a meeting place by water'). Oakhurst Gardens have an Arts and Crafts style Courtyard Garden and Italian Garden, and a calmly beautiful woodland garden (which Elizabeth saw as the domain of fairies).
