La Thomasia Alpine Garden

This genuine alpine garden was made at a time (1891) when making alpine gardens was popular in England - and many English visitors went to Switzerland at that time. The altitude is 1260 m. The Thomas family had a long history of distinguished botanists. As the map shows, one could easily argue that this is the world's most genuine 'Alpine' garden. La Thomasia garden is at the head of the Pont de Nant Valley, beside the Grand-Muveran, whose spectacular West face, approximately 800 metres high, looms over it.
