Culzean Castle and Country Park

The castle was rebuilt by Robert Adam (c1771) and has a nineteenth century terraced garden with borders and a lily pond. There are extensive woodlands and coastal walks. Loudon, forgetting his recent priase for Drumlanrig, observed in 1833 that 'nothing can exceed the granduer of the situation'. He went on to admire the 'excellent crops of grapes obtained in the pine stoves'.
