Switzerland is a rich and beautiful country. It has a few well-known gardens but town councils take so much pride in their floral displays that many pretty villages have a garden character in summer. Public gardens are immaculate. 'Alpine gardens' have been popular since the nineteenth century and Switzerland's Alpine flora has long been an attraction for garden visitors. The upland meadows ('Alps') are at their best in spring and the optimum time for a visit varies from year to year, depending on the weather. We are not aware of any specialist tours but it is an easy country to visit and English is widely spoken, as are French and German. Driving is expensive but the public transport system is excellent.
