Garden city planning

People choose to live in proximity for social and economic reasons, but they complain about environmental conditions: the city is a concrete jungle; it is ugly; it is unsafe; the air is polluted; there is insufficient contact with nature. Thinking in this way soon leads one to dream of new settlements which have the advantages of the town combined with the advantages of the country. Ebenezer Howard used the term 'garden city' to name his dream. There were contradictions in the idea but it led to improvements in residential design.
