Charring and chiseling of wood fences

Previous - Next

Another method applied both to the boards and posts of Garden Fences is that of charring the wood in patches,a process which gives to it a piebald aspect. Different ways of roughly tooling and chipping timber posts, so as to show the markings of the adze or chisel, are also employed, for the purpose of giving them a picturesque effect. Various kinds of Wooden Fences are shown in Plates XI., XII., and XIII.
