750. The gardens of Patna. At the eastern extremity of Patna is a large wood of palms and fruit trees, pointed out to Bishop Heber as the gardens belonging to a summer palace, built and planted by the Nawab Jaffier Ali Khan. They are renowned for their beauty and extent, being two or three miles in circuit. (Ibid., vol. ii. p. 237.)
[Editor's Note: Mir Jaffer Ali Khan was the Nawab of Bengal. The city now called Patna, in the State of Bihar, is very ancient and has been known as Pataliputra, Pataligram, Kusumpur, Pushpapura and Azimabad]
