Stone, metal, wood and porcelain lanterns

Lanterns are made of stone, metal, wood and porcelain, but the stone ones are most popular in the garden. Some of those made of wood or metal are hung under the eaves, or placed on rocks. Shapes, carved decoration, proportions of constituent parts, determines different styles. Space does not permit us to deal with different types of it, but they may be seen in our illustrations.
