Stone lanterns

Previous - Next

Wherever placed, the stone lantern should not stand all by itself in full exposure. There should be, set close to it, a stone to step upon when putting in the light and made accessible, wherever artistic design warrants it, by means of stepping-stones. Supplemented by a group of "sacrificed" rocks set in a shrubbery and guarded by a tree with a branch extending to the front to partly conceal it, the stone lantern is invested with a dignity which illumines the whole garden.
