1860. The portable wire shade is a bottomless cage of wire or wickerwork, to place over tender plants, to protect them from excess of wind, sun, and rain. Wire shades are a good deal used in the botanic gardens on the Continent, for moderating the direct influence of the sun on plants of cold climates.
