The wood

Gertrude Jekyll was far from being the first person to appreciate the beauty of woods. Nor was she the first to introduce exotic plants into native woods. But she was the first to treat woodland planting as a fine art and her plant introductions were always planned with great sensitivity to the color and form of native woodland plants.
