England's greatest poet and dramatist. His plays contain many references to garden plants, which has given rise to a number of Shakespeare Houses and Gardens in Stratford-upon-Avon. The world has a great number of 'Shakespeare gardens', usually made with more knowledge of the plants named in Shakespeare's plays than of the types of garden which were made in sixteenth century England. It was a period when knowledge of renaissance gardens was still reaching England.
