Clark, Frank

Born - Died : 1902 - 1971

An English landscape architect and garden historian. Frank Clark was born in Manila. After spending a decade travelling the world and doing odd jobs, he tried to think what he had most enjoyed. It was making a garden in the Alaskan tundra, after a day spent counting salmon. This led him to an apprenticeship with Percy Cane, to collaboration with Christopher Tunnard and to Frank Clark's book on The English Landscape Garden (1948). He then taught at the Universities of Reading and Edinburgh, inspiring the first generation of professionally qualified British landscape architects.
