Son of Nathaniel Lloyd, Christopher Lloyd was the owner of Great Dixter and one of the best known writers on plants and planting design. Christopher Lloyd studied horticulture at Wye College and lectured there for some years. His books include The Well-Tempered Garden (1970) and Foliage Plants (1973). The most likely influences on Lloyd are Gertrude Jekyll, Vita Sackville West, Edwin Lutyens and other participants in the Arts and Crafts Style of garden design.
