The building was awarded the RIBA Prize for Architecture in 2005, rewarding the architect for designing a building which was little admired at the time of its completion - and cost ten times more than the original budget. The external landscape was designed, by RMJM, to blend with Holyrood Park. This is successful, though many local residents would prefer 'flowers' to what they see as 'weeds'. The internal courts can only be visited by taking a tour but are designed as gardens.
