The Garden Guide

A baluster is a short pillar with a curved outline and a balustrade is a barrier made with pillars of this type and topped with a coping or rail. The word comes from the Greek word (balustion) for a pomegranate flower which resembles the shape of a baluster.<a href="/history_theory/garden_books/ml_gothein_history_garden_art_design/italian_garden_history_renaissance#balustraded">Example 1: Italian garden history</a>, <a href="/history_theory/garden_books/ml_gothein_history_garden_art_design/roman_baroque#balustrade">Example 2: Roman Baroque</a>
