Naqsh-e-Rustam

Naqsh-e-Rustam, or Naqsh-e Rostam, and Naqsh-e Rajab are rock tombs carved into a cliff near Persepolis. The tombs belonged, it is thought, to Darius I, Darius II, Xerxes I and Ataxerxes I. There is a Zoroastrian Fire Temple in front of the tombs but its presence cannot be taken as evidence that the occupants of the tombs were followers of Zoroaster - because the Zoroastrians did not bury their dead in tombs. Dear bodies were exposed to birds in Towers of Silence.
