Certain of the above are classed separately by the Japanese as Koyo-mono, or Trees of Reddening Leaf, and as such, may be recapitulated:Acer palmatum (Yama-momiji), Acer japonicum (Meigetsu-kaede and Hauchiwa-kaede), Acer rufinerve (Uri-hada-kaede), Acer buergerianum (Hana-kaede), Acer purpurascens (Kachi-kaede), Acer cissifolium (Mitsude-kaede); and belonging to the same species are certain garden varieties known as:Chishiwo-momiji, or Blood Maple; Tora-kaede, or Tiger Maple; 0-sakazuki-momiji, or Wine-cup Maple; Benishida-momiji, or Pink Maple; Kara-kaede, or Chinese Maple; Jiman-zome-momiji, or Maple of Rich Dye; Genji-momiji, or Red Maple; Nomura-momiji or Copper-coloured Maple; Hitotsuba-momiji, or Single-leaved Maple. The Blood Maple, Pink Maple, Copper-coloured Maple, and others, are classed as "Spring Maples," their colour being brightest when their leaves are young. Maples which show green leaves in the spring-time, produce the richest tints in Autumn.
