Japanese Camellias

The Camellia, which has been mentioned among evergreens, is one of the most important flowering trees. The classified kinds are:�Camellia japonica (Tsubaki), Camellia japonica, luteo-variegata (Kifu-tsubaki), Camellia japonica, flore pleno (Otome-tsubaki), Camellia japonica, fol. aculeato serratis (Hiragi-tsubaki), Stuartia pseudo-camellia (Natsu-tsubaki or Shara-tsubaki). Fancy names applied to garden varieties of the above are:�Yaye-amegashita-tsubaki, or Celestial Double Camellia; Kara-tsubaki, or Chinese Camellia; Gegan-tsubaki, or Double Pale Red Camellia, Shiratama-monogurui-tsubaki, or White Curled Blossom Camellia; Bingo-shibori-tsubaki, or Bingo* Variegated Camellia; Miorenji-tsubaki, or Miorenji* Camellia; Kumagaye-tsubaki, or Kumagaye* Camellia; Suisho-tsubaki or Crystal Blossom Camellia; Sarasa-fukurin-tsubaki, or Coloured-edged Blossom Camellia; and Iwashibori-tsubaki, or Variegated Rock Camellia. (*Bingo, Miorenji, and Kumagaye are names of places.)
