Hedges are to be found in Brazil, in those districts which are cultivated, and in which the original forests have been almost entirely superseded by bananas, mangoes, and other fruit-bearing trees. The hedges are formed of a species of mimosa, and they are regularly clipped, Dr. Walsh informs us, like the hawthorn hedges of England. (Notices of Brazil, vol. ii. p. 299.)
