262. Herb or physic gardens are more common in France than in Britain. Plants form a much more important part of the materia medica of the hospitals and French physicians than in this country, and their use is very popular among the lower orders. The herborists of Paris occupy a particular lane, where they offer a great variety of dried plants for sale.
