292. Of artists in gardening (artistes jardiniers, architectes des jardins), there are a number in France, chiefly resident in Paris. Girardin, Morel, and Delille may be considered as having established the principles of gardening in France, as an art of design and taste; but it does not appear clear that the artists in general have caught their principles.
