250.In the time of the directory and of the consulate, preparations were commenced for establishing a general system of botanic gardens throughout France; but time did not permit the execution of the plan. Improvements, however, were made in the Jardin des Plantes, and in that of the Petit Trianon; and the garden of Malmaison was established.
