Sexes of stones

Previous - Next

Sexes have been attributed to stones of different forms, thus affording useful ï¾µsthetic aid in obtaining a fitting contrast in grouping them, as they are generally combined in contrasting pairs. In a large elaborate garden there may be as many as one hundred and thirty-eight principal rocks having special names, each with its own function to perform, in addition to a large number of others of secondary importance. But in a small garden of abbreviated style as few as five stones will suffice, always including the "guardian stone," "stone of worship" and "stone of two deities."
