Turf beetle

1724. The turf-beetle (fig. 327. p. 518.) is a cylindrical piece of wood, of one hundred or two hundred pounds' weight, with an upright handle and two cross handlets attached; it is used chiefly for pressing down and levelling new-laid turf.
