Herbaria

1001. Herbaria. Some botanists have substituted dried specimens for figures, which is approved of in cases of difficult tribes or genera; as in the grasses, ferns, mosses, fungi, and other lower orders of plants, &c. A collection of plants of this kind is called a Hortus Siccus, or dry garden.
