Air and soil chemistry

Soils are benefited chemically by the free admission of air to their interior parts, partly because it enables them to extract from the air certain chemical agents of which they are in want; and partly by means of the influence exercised by the constituents of the atmosphere in disintegrating solid earthy particles.
