Set in over 300 acres of gardens, the Bal Samand Lake Palace is a red sandstone Rajput summer palace, built for the Maharajas of Marwarpalace on the embankment of the dam of a 13th century artificial lake. The well maintained garden lies in the valley east of the lake with a marble cascade descending from the lake to the garden. There is a small but fine old baoli (stepwell) near the garden entrance. The hotel is 5kms from Jodhpur and 12 kms from the city airport.
