Gardens in Turkey

The Turks were a nomadic people from East Asia who learned the art of making gardens partly from the Greek and Roman gardens of what is now Western Turkey and partly from the Persian gardens of what is now Eastern Turkey. They also retained a love of outdoor living in what became a garden setting. It is regrettable that so few Turkish gardens survive from Turkey’s Ottoman period.
