Bede's World is adjacent to the 7th century church and monastery, where the Venerable Bede lived (AD 673-735), and includes a museum, Anglo-Saxon demonstration farm, cafe, shop and re-created medieval herb garden. The garden has culinary, medicinal, aromatic and Anglo-Saxon sections, and the layout is based on the 9th century plan for the herb garden at St Gall.
