The house is a prime example of the Caroline Revival, set in 1750 acres of park and woodland. There is an arboretum and a Victorian walled garden which has been planted with roses and herbaceous plants. The Bessborough Arboretum has deciduous and coniferous trees. The Stansted Park Victorian Glass Houses have been restored. The 'Garden in Mind' made by Ivan Hicks, adjoining the walled garden, has a variety of surreal arrangements.
