Cholmondeley Castle Gardens

An ancient estate with a romantic nineteenth century castle and gardens. The fine site is well-suited to the picturesque woodland planting in acid conditions. The Castle is surrounded by lawns and looks down from a terrace to a lake. Before the nineteenth century Cholmondeley had an English Baroque Forest Style garden. In the 18th century William Emes designed a Serpentine Park and in the nineteenth century exotic planting made it Gardenesque.
