Gardenvisit Editorial

Balsamand is a Rajput summer palace, built for the Maharajas of Marwar. Balsamand Lake dates from the 13th century. The water palace stands on the embankment of the dam. A well maintained garden lies in the valley east of the lake with a marble cascade descending from the lake to the garden. There is a small but fine old baoli (stepwell) near the garden entrance.

Absolutely stunning gardens! Best seen in the early part of the year - January-March before the heat comes. Perhaps the most striking aspect of all is that plants are labelled!
