The University of Greenwich has appointed a firm of landscape architects (Weddle Landscape Design)to restore the conservatory and its plants. A new heating system will be installed and the old irrigation system (using not-too-alkaline rainwater) will be restored. It is hoped that the works will be completed in 2009.

the Winter Garden is permantly closed at the moment. The plants are dying. The heating system has failed and is apparently too expensive to be fixed! Ive been looking to see if anyone ie Greenwich council or university are doing anything about trying to save the plants before its too late and reparing the heating so as to allow the winter garden to reopen

The winter gardens have def seen better days. took my daughter there on sat but found it was closed we got there at 2.15 no one to be seen. Grafitti scrawled all over the doors and the walls and looking through all this the inside looked like it could do with a bit more man power to bring it back to life.

It would really be a nice place but seems to have been a bit neglected, not trying to be horrible it must be a big job but i think just needs more hands to get it nice.

Signage is a bit lacking as i have never been there before i had to ask people how to find it. there is only 1 sign as you enter the park then thats it.

I wonder if there is a scheme whereby we could offer a few hours a week to bring it back to life.

The Cafe, it turns out, is a porta cabin in the field which has one of the maddest paint jobs ive ever seen. not exactly what i was expecting but i suppose it does the job.

All in all not a place i would rush back to as a visitor but would like to have a go helping to clean it up.

    Real shame really.
