Ashford Castle was originally built in the thirteenth century but the orginal building has been considerably extended and rebuilt. The hotel has a magnificent setting on the shores of Lough Corrib, Ireland's second largest lake. The estate is 350 acres and once belonged to the Guiness family. The nineteenth century formal garden was designed by Arthur Sheketon.
