West Lake (Hsi Hu)

The West Lake, greatly admired by Marco Polo, is ringed on three sides by hills. The 'hills and waters' were loved by poets, painters and emperors and are now very popular with tourists. There are four islands in the lake and pavilions and gardens were made near the shore. Famous scenes have names: 'Lotus Flowers Swaying in Gentle Breeze in the Quyuan Garden', 'Autumn Moon on the Calm Lake', 'Leifeng Pagoda in the Twilight of the Setting Sun', 'Twin Peaks Soaring into Clouds' and 'Three Pools Mirroring the Moon'.
