Tew Lodge

The remains of Loudon's ferme ornee in Great Tew can just about be seen -  but only by those who print a copy of the plan (right) from Loudon's book and take it with them. Loudon made a  fortune  by  improving the farm and used the money to pay for the tour of Europe which  enabled him to write the first illustrated history of garden design. It was published in his Encyclopedia of  Gardening and can be read on this website.
