Qian Long (or Ch'ien-lung) Garden

This garden is one of three gardens within the Forbidden City (former Imperial Palace) and was made for a retired emperor. It has five courtyards of which two are planted with trees and the others ornamented with rockwork, pavilions and roofed (lang) walkways. There are (small) hills, rivers, caves and pavilions (including The Green Shell Pavilion, the Pavilion of Excellent Views and the Tower of Elusive Dreams). The garden was derelict for many years but was restored in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
